Built in the 1950s, the plaza was named for hotelier Barney Allis who was a champion of downtown. For years his grandson, Lou Kovitz, has been an enthusiastic supporter and close follower of the plaza’s redevelopment.
So, when the American flag which had flown over the plaza had to be removed for construction to continue, members of the crew who are veterans took great care to lower and fold it, and members of the project team sent the flag to Lou in honor of his grandfather and his legacy.
