The Barney Allis Redevelopment project is once again underway with some new developments since the last update in March 2021.

This past spring, members of City Council for Kansas City, Missouri voted to enter into a design-build (D-B) agreement for the Barney Allis garage, plaza and perimeter with McCownGordon Construction, much in part to the willingness of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority to help fund the next phase of work.

Since March 2021, the project team has expanded to include the D-B team (McCownGordon, HOK and subcontractors) and worked to reignite project progress on initial schematic designs, financing solutions and commercial real estate options. During this time the project team also met with the new City Manager Brian Platt and he communicated his priorities for the project site, which includes:

  • Establishing two entrances to the new parking garage – Central Street & Wyandotte Street.
  • The replacement of approximately 410-620 parking spaces in the new parking garage.
  • Construction of a ground floor structure to allow for potential future vertical development

With his direction, information from past studies and feedback gathered through community engagement efforts, the project team continues to draft schematic designs to meet these preferences. Concurrently, the project team is actively reaching out to personally update adjacent property owners, key stakeholder groups and leaders who had previously dedicated time and input throughout the project process.

Thank you for your continued interest in the project and your involvement that contributed to the progress made on the project thus far.
