As temperatures have risen this summer, so has the momentum at Barney Allis Plaza (BAP). The past several weeks have resulted in major construction milestones as the project moves from groundwork to vertical structures. Here’s a look at where we are and what’s coming next.

Final Pier Drilled
The foundation work, quite literally the base of the entire project, has made incredible strides. The 241st and final pier was drilled on Wednesday, July 16, a major milestone signifying that construction is nearing the point of all foundations being complete. With grade beams, pier caps, and footers complete, the project has a sturdy and stable platform that sets the stage for the next phase of construction.

Vertical Progress: Walls and Columns
Walls and columns have continued to rise, marking visible signs of progress. The south wall is 100 percent complete, the east wall is at 95 percent, and the west wall is about halfway there. Next up: construction of the speed ramp walls on the north end, which will eventually allow vehicle access between the B1 and B2 levels of the underground parking garage.

Slab on Grade Pours
Slab-on-grade pours, concrete pavement you’ll eventually walk or drive on, are anticipated to start in August. This process begins at the foundation building pad, onto which crews install drainage mats and 12 inches of stone to assist with drainage, before pouring the slab. The system ensures proper water flow and structural stability.

Strategic Moves for Better Flow
A significant shift has been the relocation of the central access ramp. Previously essential for building out the south side, the ramp has been moved, allowing completion of the building pad and better sequencing of construction activities. With this change, work can proceed more efficiently across the entire site.

Underground Work in Full Swing
While vertical construction grabs attention, the underground mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems are a vital part of the project. Recent work has focused on the south end, with crews installing storm drainage systems, sanitary sewer connections, and lines for building controls and communication systems. Much of this equipment is now in place, allowing for a more streamlined and safer layout by reducing overhead clutter.

With the drilled piers completed, the large drill rigs and their supporting fleet, nearly five trucks’ worth of equipment, are being moved offsite. This clears valuable space for staging, improves site organization, and helps crews better coordinate upcoming phases.
