Demolition begins at the Barney Allis Plaza site
In the heart of downtown Kansas City, the days are numbered for the above ground Barney Allis Plaza and Auditorium Parking Garage underneath. People may notice an increase of activity in and around the site as McCownGordon Construction prepares to mobilize and start demolition activities.

Downtown visitors may notice increased activity at Barney Allis Plaza and Auditorium Parking Garage as the project team is in the process of starting the manual demolition.
Workers are installing construction banners on the concrete barriers around the perimeter of Barney Allis Plaza. Renderings of the future Plaza space will be visible from all four streets encompassing the area.
Groundbreaking for Barney Allis Redevelopment celebrated on June 26, 2024
Kansas City officials marked the official start of demolition and construction for the new Barney Allis Plaza and Garage at a groundbreaking news conference held on Tuesday, June 26, 2024. Local elected officials, past council members, area community and business leaders, participants of previous public engagement committees, and the project team gathered on top of the plaza to share a few remarks and move ceremonial dirt.
