A lasting legacy
Built in the 1950s, the plaza was named for hotelier Barney Allis who was a champion of downtown. For years his grandson, Lou Kovitz, has been an enthusiastic supporter and close follower of the plaza’s redevelopment.

Demolition begins at the Barney Allis Plaza site
In the heart of downtown Kansas City, the days are numbered for the above ground Barney Allis Plaza and Auditorium Parking Garage underneath. People may notice an increase of activity in and around the site as McCownGordon Construction prepares to mobilize and start demolition activities.

Downtown visitors may notice increased activity at Barney Allis Plaza and Auditorium Parking Garage as the project team is in the process of starting the manual demolition.
Workers are installing construction banners on the concrete barriers around the perimeter of Barney Allis Plaza. Renderings of the future Plaza space will be visible from all four streets encompassing the area.

Dog Park
All dogs, small and large, are invited to play on topographic play mounds in dedicated areas for canines according to size.

Children will enjoy sculptural and artistic play equipment, enclosed by mounded topography and raised planters.

A variety of lawn spaces, paved event plaza, and pavilion plaza will support signature events and gatherings.
Accessibility
The new plaza will be seamlessly accessible from street level around the perimeter and it will support multi-modal connections.
