There’s still time to be part of one of Downtown Kansas City’s most exciting new destinations.
DTC Community Development Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has extended the deadline to submit proposals until July 15, 2026, for the lease and operation of a café at the newly reconstructed Barney Allis Plaza, scheduled to open in spring 2027.
Located in the heart of Downtown Kansas City, Barney Allis Plaza is being transformed into a vibrant civic gathering space surrounded by the Kansas City Convention Center, Municipal Auditorium, the Power & Light District, and a growing downtown neighborhood of more than 33,000 residents.
This is a unique opportunity to create a signature café in one of the city’s most visible public spaces. The selected operator will serve a diverse mix of downtown workers, residents, convention attendees, hotel guests, and visitors—from morning coffee and breakfast to lunch, afternoon meetings, and evening events.
The reimagined Plaza will feature year-round programming, public art, a children’s play area, a dog park, and inviting green space designed to attract activity throughout the day. The café will be a key part of that experience, helping activate the Plaza and create a welcoming destination for the community.
The café space includes approximately 1,055 square feet with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Plaza’s north seating area. Delivered as a white-box space, it offers the flexibility to create a build-out that reflects your brand, with opportunities for both indoor and outdoor seating.
DTC Community Development Inc. is seeking an experienced, creative operator with the vision and capacity to make this space a downtown destination. Proposals will be evaluated based on operating experience, concept, design, financial capability, and lease offer.
